Children and Adolescents Therapy
At PAR, we specialize in helping children and adolescents work through a vast array of mental health needs and behavioral disorders.
When it comes to providing therapy for children and adolescents, our approach differs from that of the typical therapist. Usually, a parent is requested to attend a part of every session to talk about the child’s progress or problems. However, this can cause anxiety in the child as they feel their parent is reporting their faults to the therapist. Our approach involves making the parent’s involvement in therapy a deliberate intervention, allowing the child to retain control of their therapeutic space and feel empowered in the healing process.
With this approach, we are able to create a treatment plan that effectively supports your kiddo by prioritizing the child’s sense of autonomy and agency in his/her own progress. Parents are a part of the treatment team and are consulted over the phone or during intermittent parent sessions, unless inviting a parent into a session is deemed helpful.
While our approach to therapy empowers your child to have their own safe individual space, we’re also actively partnering with you behind the scenes. To do this, we do an initial intake with you alone, so we can talk openly about your child’s history, your concerns, and stay in communication throughout the therapeutic journey.
At PAR, we can help your child—
At PAR, we can help your child—
- articulate what they’re feeling
- take control of their emotions
- take responsibility of their behaviors
- practice problem-solving skills
- practice social skills
- improve academic performance
- appreciate family relationships
After the initial intake session with you, your child will come in for three to four sessions. During this time, we will be building rapport and assessing your child’s therapeutic needs. From here, we will meet with you for a feedback session to discuss treatments moving forward and how we will work together to benefit your child. All of this will start a good therapeutic relationship and process that will allow your child to engage in weekly sessions to improve their world.
In between sessions, we encourage you to call us to report on how your child is responding to the treatment. By bringing you into the fold, we believe that your child gets a better chance at meeting their therapeutic goals.
Additionally, we work hard to create comfort levels for kiddos with learning differences to understand their abilities and to feel confident in self-advocacy.
